Sales and marketing

"RIBA Publishing really understand the special publishing needs of the construction industry.  Unlike other publishers, they work closely and supportively with the technical authors for the architectural, contractual and professional publications that the RIBA Practice Department and our construction industry partners are involved with.  I find that the expert RIBA Publishing team are always willing to be pro-active and contribute constructively to the development and promotion of new publications."
Richard Brindley, Practice Director, Royal Institute of British Architects

Because of our link with the Royal Institute of British Architects, and through our own customer database, we have unique and unparalleled access to over 30,000 architects and a huge number of other construction professionals. This allows us to target the precise audience for each title individually, ensuring the widest possible exposure for any publication.

The quality of content, editorial input and production of our publications is carried through into our approach to marketing and selling. We tailor our marketing plans to suit the needs of the product, and work closely with the author or client to ensure that we tap into all potential marketing opportunities.

Routes to market

The network of RIBA Bookshops (London, Manchester, Birmingham, Liverpool and Belfast), our database of customers and the RIBA membership database, give us an ideal platform from which to promote all new publications. In addition, we undertake a number of specific promotional activities for new publications, including:

  • A targeted press campaign to all the relevant trade papers, magazines and journals.
  • Mailshots to our existing customers and RIBA members and relevant trade associations and organisations (where appropriate).
  • Adverts or loose inserts are placed in relevant journals and magazines.
  • Details of new publications are included in the RIBA Bookshops’ ‘New Books’ e-mail alert service, which is sent to over 14,000 construction professionals every week.
  • Details of new publications are promoted on our online bookshop – www.ribabookshops.com – which attracts an average of 1,700 visitors per day.
  • All new publications are listed with BookData (to reach book retailers such as Amazon) and new book information sheets are sent to all relevant bookshops and universities.

Customer services and distribution

Whether you order by telephone, fax, post or online, your order will be handled by one of our team of six customer service co-ordinators.  They are on hand from 9.00am to 5.30pm, Monday to Friday, to deal with all customer enquiries, be they related to delivery methods, availability, price, or advice on product selection.

All of our publications are held in our central London warehouse and most orders are processed and dispatched within 24 hours of receipt. All items sent within the UK, weighing less than 1kg, are sent by First Class post, while the remainder are sent by 'Next day Delivery' courier.  Goods sent outside of the UK are sent by a standard courier service.  The warehouse also monitors and supplies stock to all the regional RIBA Bookshops.
